How do you make the change happening in a complex system, clearer and more malleable?

The Three Horizons Framework enables participants to step into the process of change and observe which aspects of the system are in decline, what is emerging and the innovations that bridge between the two.

When the Association of Sustainability Practitioners asked if I could design a non-hierarchical process to bring wealth of member knowledge into their evolution and development, Three Horizons was my immediate go-to.

We are using the Framework as a form of action research, not just to generate proposals for the future of the organisation, but to sketch out an archetype of how members bring their own practice and perspective to bear on making change.

It’s a simple way to structure and organise a distributed process, where only the participants know what they have to contribute. This would be a top-down nightmare, but bottom-up it’s a dream.
